FAQs About the Audit for the Public
HealthMachine is the Healthcare Professionals Portal of the Audit. The Healthcare Professionals Portal provides access to patients e-Diary reports, presenting clinically relevant summaries that can be copied directly into clinical correspondence or electronic patient records.
The portal also enables healthcare professionals to conduct their own local clinical audits using multiple filtering options (for example specific treatments), and to record patient diagnoses.
The portal is delivered via HealthMachine, a secured third-party digital health platform.
Healthcare professionals can register to participate in the Audit via this link.
Any members of your clinical team who wish to access HealthMachine are required to register to participate in the Audit here. During registration, clinical team members from the same department and hospital will be assigned access to the same HealthMachine data. Any new registrations will receive instructions on how to set up their three‑way authentication required to access HealthMachine.
You can access patient data only if the patient has consented, via the MyHeadache app, to share their diary with you. Any patient who submits a request must be approved by you in HealthMachine. Please accept connection requests only from patients under your care.
Any pending requests will appear on the HealthMachine homepage and as an alert in the top‑right corner (bell icon) next to your profile icon. All patients whose requests you approve will appear under the Active chevron. You can use the available filters to locate a specific patient in the list.
Active chevron
This shows patients who have an approved and active connection with you. These are patients under your care whose requests you have accepted, and whose data you can currently access.
Inactive chevron
This is an optional chevron where you can move patients who do not currently have an active connection with you, such as patients who have been discharged or are no longer receiving active treatment.
When you open an individual patient record, you will see the summarised monthly data in the e‑diary section. You have the option to copy the table either as an image or as a table into a Word document.
As different electronic patient record systems are used across the UK, you should choose the method that best allows you to paste the data into your system. Some systems accept pasted images, while others can accept pasted tables. Please select the option that suits you best.
If none of these options work for you, you also have the option to download a PDF report, which can then be uploaded into your electronic patient record system.
Yes, you have the option to add past and current treatment options and to edit aspects of the medical history. If you disagree with the data collected as part of the e‑diary, you cannot edit the data inputs directly in HealthMachine. However, you can copy the data as a table into a Word document and make changes there before adding them to your clinical notes.
The MyHeadache app is not a medical device, and diagnoses entered by patients are not considered clinically validated. For this reason, diagnoses must be added or confirmed by a healthcare professional in HealthMachine.
Completing the Diagnosis tab ensures that patients are appropriately classified for audit and potential future research. Accurate diagnoses also support correct filtering of patients, help inform treatment decisions, and improve the quality and clinical relevance of audit outputs.
